Simple, clear ground rules.
Information for residents looking for a trade and independent businesses considering a listing.
Last updated: 3 November 2026
1. The directory service
Ormskirk Trades is intended to be an independent directory of trade businesses serving Ormskirk and nearby West Lancashire communities. It will help visitors discover and contact businesses. The directory itself does not carry out building, plumbing, electrical or other trade work.
2. Information and endorsement
Information in profiles is provided by the individual business or with its authorisation. Inclusion does not imply independent vetting, professional accreditation, guaranteed availability, workmanship quality or approval by the directory. Any qualifications or registrations shown are self-reported unless a clearly defined independent check is actually performed and documented.
3. Before commissioning work
Customers should check relevant trade qualifications or registrations, insurance, identification, references, written quotations, price, payment schedule and completion terms directly with the business. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register where relevant. For electrical work, check any legally required qualifications or competent-person scheme membership. Emergency or unsafe situations should be referred to the appropriate qualified provider or emergency service.
4. Agreements with traders
Any quote, contract, payment, cancellation or dispute about trade work is between the resident and the independent tradesperson. The directory does not receive payment for the underlying job through the current website.
5. Free and proposed paid listings
Basic business listings are proposed to be free. A £19-per-month introductory founding membership for the first ten participating businesses and a £29-per-month standard featured membership are proposed, not yet on sale. There is currently no online payment facility or live paid agreement.
6. Paid membership terms still to be finalised
Before any subscription is sold, participating businesses must receive clear written details of the services included, whether listings receive any prominence, the total price and any VAT, the billing cycle, renewal arrangements, how to cancel, what happens when payment fails, and the complaints process. No number of enquiries or jobs will be guaranteed. These draft terms do not by themselves create an agreement.
7. Listing consent and changes
Businesses must authorise their listing and the use of their photographs, description and contact details. They should promptly report incorrect information or changes. The operator may remove materially inaccurate, misleading, unlawful or abusive content, with a proportionate correction and complaints process to be set out in the final version.
8. Liability and statutory rights
Nothing in the final terms should attempt to exclude liability where doing so would be unlawful, or limit a consumer's statutory rights. Specific legal liability and dispute clauses require review before a commercial launch.
9. Website operation
Listings, categories and geographic coverage can change. Reasonable efforts will be made to keep the website accurate and available, but functionality and uninterrupted access are not guaranteed.
10. Governing law and contact
These directory arrangements are intended to be governed by the law of England and Wales, subject to applicable mandatory rights. Any business membership agreement will be provided separately before payment is requested.
See the privacy notice. For directory enquiries and complaints, contact admin@ormskirktrades.co.uk. David Dillon is the sole-trader proprietor. The business contact address is 44 Moor Street, Ormskirk, Lancashire, L39 2QA.
